Ice Rink Opens for Season on December 5 and Kicks Off with a Series of Themed Skate Nights  Plus A Friday Night Family Skate with Fish Fry at The Boathouse, Now Open Year Round

Madison, WI (December 2019) — The Edgewater’s Grand Plaza skating rink opens today for the season.  Surrounded by twinkling holiday lights and three giant lit up Christmas trees, the lakeside skating rink offers magical views of Wisconsin’s State Capitol and Lake Mendota.

Throughout the month of December, special themed skate nights will take place.  Skate to the sounds of the 1970’s on Holiday Disco Skate, Thursday, December 12.  Bring the whole family for a Santa Skate on Friday, December 20 and end the evening with a Friday Night Fish Fry in The Boathouse.  Celebrate the start of the chilly season with a Winter Solstice Skate on Saturday, December 21 and put away the books for a Study Break Skate on December 22.  Themed skating nights will run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

More themed skate nights will be announced throughout the season.  The ice rink is open Wednesday-Saturday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.  and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.  Friday night is a designated family skate night with The Boathouse offering a Friday Night Fish Fry.  Cost to skate is $7 per adult; $4 for seniors; $6 for students; $4 for youth 5-12 and free under 5.  Skate rental is $3 or guests can bring their own skates.

The Boathouse is now open from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., Monday-Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., Friday-Sunday.
