
The Edgewater Debuts “Summer of Music” 2018 Community Programming
Grand Plaza Playing Host To Brewgrass Fridays, Outdoor Movies & Special Events
Madison, WI (4/19/2018) –Today The Edgewater releases its schedule of free community programming for summer 2018, all centered around a musical theme—from Brewgrass Fridays to music-inspired outdoor movies, Madison’s Place celebrates a “Summer of Music” from Memorial Day to Labor Day with sips and sounds at the water’s edge.
“Free community programing on The Grand Plaza allows guests and locals to enjoy the waterfront, and our summer lineup brings back long-standing favorites like Brewgrass Fridays, outdoor movie nights and Fourth Fest,” says Amy Supple, Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at The Edgewater. “In addition, we’re excited to host several different events this year including a Memorial Day tribute performance honoring veterans and a larger Summer Solstice festival.”

Memorial Day Weekend: We Gotta Get Out of This Place, A Concert Experience (May 26)
The Edgewater salutes Memorial Day 2018 with an inspiring concert experience featuring the soundtrack of the Vietnam War. Sean Michael Dargan & The Back in the World Band will perform a musical story based on “We Gotta Get Out of This Place” by c0-authors Doug Bradley and Craig Werner, while Vietnam veterans provide first person narratives, offering a diverse array of viewpoints regarding the war and the impact of music on their Vietnam experience. The performance will benefit The Highground, a 155 acre Veterans Memorial Park near Neillsville, WI.
Brewgrass Fridays (June 1-August 31)
Brewgrass Fridays, in partnership with Door County Brewing company, features performances by some of the nations’s best bluegrass bands and a traditional Fish Fry held every Friday night of the season. It kicks off on Friday, June 1, and concludes with a Brewgrass Festival on Friday, August 31 featuring No Name Strong Band, Chicago Farmer and headliner Charlie Parr.
This year’s lineup includes: Feed the Dog (6/1); Dead Horses (6/8); No Name String Band (6/15); TBA (6/22); Appleseed Collective (6/29); Whiskey Shivers (7/7); The Larry Keel Experience (7/13); Dead Pigeons (7/21); Wheelhouse (7/27); Headliner TBA with Armchair Boogie (8/3); Them Coulee Boys (8/ 10); The Last Revel (8/17); TBA (8/24). A classic Wisco fish fry begins at 5:00 p.m. with music starting at 6:00 p.m.
Movies on the Water (June 12-August 28)
Movies with a musical theme will take place every Tuesday on the Plaza from June 12-August 28. The lineup includes: Grease (6/12); Almost Famous (6/19); High Fidelity (6/26); Pitch Perfect 3 (7/3); The Last Waltz (7/10); A Mighty Wind (7/17); Sing Street (7/24); School of Rock (8/7); The Blues Brothers (8/14); La La Land (8/21) and SING (8/28). Movies begin at sunset.
3rd Annual Summer Solstice (June 16)
Celebrating the upcoming Summer Solstice, this lively event celebrates the sun and all things summer. The sunshine-inspired celebration of summer will feature live music from the Panchromatic Steeldrum Band followed by Madison favorite, Natty Nation. A Waterfront Art Fair will be held on the Langdon Landing featuring local artists and craftsmen and The Edgewater Pier will showcase a Ride & Drive Boat Show with Gordy’s Marina. The Grand Plaza will offer bites from local favorites as well as craft brews and cocktails. New this year will be a Mindfulness Meditation session on the Sky Bar Terrace.
Fourth Fest (June 30)
The property will rock the dock for the 4th Annual Fourth Fest, featuring live music headliner People Brothers Band, kids’ entertainment, carnival games and waterfront fun including performances from the Mad City Ski Team. Expect Fourth of July favorites including burgers, brats, foot-long hot dogs, corn on the cob, and more! Celebrating Independence Day, this red, white and blue holiday is fun for the whole family.
Labor Day (September 1) – Details to be announced
Just a short walk from the State Capital and the UW campus, The Edgewater’s Grand Plaza plays host to the summer events, and is a public waterfront terrace and stairway that extends to a public pier offering 40 complimentary slips to boaters, all designed to bring people to the waterfront. Summer boat rentals and packages will be announced later in Spring 2018.
